As a Tapestry Collection Hotel by Hilton, The Westley Calgary Downtown Hotel is Calgary’s newest boutique hotel with a modern take on Calgary’s wild west roots and we are currently looking for dynamic people to join our team!
The Westley Calgary Downtown has an existing vacancy for a Houseperson. This position is responsible for taking care of common areas in a hotel, such as the lobby, restrooms and pool area. As part of the housekeeping staff, a Houseperson must be detail-oriented, have good customer service skills, be able to lift heavy items and understand cleaning basics.
Your Role:
Reporting to the Executive Housekeeper, the Houseperson:
Live the corporate culture, personifying it in daily interactions with both guests and team members.
Be an engaging team member who is highly inclusive, inspiring, and able to relate to all levels.
Participate in a fun and supportive working environment where team members aspire to do what is right and are given the empowerment to execute
Cleans rugs, carpets and upholstered furniture.
Cleans rooms, hallways (including water and ice station), gym and restrooms.
Washes walls, ceiling, doors and door frames, moves furniture and turns mattresses as required.
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors.
Collects soiled linen for laundering.
Removes trash collected by room attendants.
Removes, cleans and restocks water glasses and mugs for Room Attendants
Walks all assigned floors at beginning and end of shift to collect newspapers, trash, soiled linens, dirty dishes etc.
Picks up clean linen and refill the par stock of linen and guest amenities/supplies on each floor pantry.
Delivers towels, cribs, cots and other items to the guest rooms on requests.
Performs duties of room attendant when necessary.
Help the Guest Room Attendants with heavy lifting as needed.
Cleans all public areas in the prescribed manner while following department standard operating procedures.
Responds at all times in a friendly, helpful manner to guests and other team members.
Supports maintenance over the winter months with snow removal
Ensures surrounding area of hotel and parkade is free of garbage
Reports missing / found articles, damage or merchandise problems to the housekeeping supervisors.
Reports low stock on amenities to Manager/Supervisor
Responds at all times in a friendly, helpful manner to guests and other team members.
Your Superpowers
Work varying shifts (mornings, afternoons, evenings, some overnights, weekends and holidays);
Move, lift, carry, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 55 pounds without assistance and in excess of 55 pounds with assistance;
Ability to push and pull a loaded housekeeping cart and other work-related machinery over sloping and uneven surfaces;
Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping;
Stand, sit, kneel, or walk for an extended period across an entire work shift;
Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination;
Visually verify and interpret written documents;
Move at a speed that is required to respond to work situations (e.g., run, walk, jog);
Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines (e.g., to identify defects);
Move through narrow, confined, or elevated spaces;
Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces and steps;
Move up and down stairs and/or service ramps;
Continual use of manual dexterity and gross motor skills with frequent use of bi-manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
What You Bring to the Table
High school diploma/G.E.D. equivalent;
At least 1 year of guest service and/or housekeeping experience;
Experience using industrial cleaning equipment and products;
Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively and professionally with other business departments, guests, and vendors.
Ability to diplomatically deal with difficult situations and people, while exhibiting a consistent level of professionalism.
Ability to work with little or no supervision while meeting high-performance standards;
Ability to follow instruction.
Thrives in a fast-paced environment-maintaining composure and objectivity with guests and team members;
Available to work nights, weekends and/or holidays as required, including occasional Manager-On-Duty shifts.
