Maintenance Manager

The Maintenance Manager is a hands-on position, responsible for keeping all building assets in good condition with minimum downtime, by executing a preventive maintenance program as per code, Brand and manufacturer requirements.  The Maintenance Manager will attend to all day-to-day requests and complete all maintenance work requests from all departments on a timely basis in Transcendent, as well will follow the Hotels standard operating procedures.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Understand and operate advanced electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and HVAC systems;
  • Analyze problems, identify courses of action, and implement solutions with available resources and to a high degree of quality;
  • Maintain building documents, certificates and licenses as required by the Authority having jurisdiction;
  • Managing contractor communication and ensure the highest performance;
  • Respond and attend to guest room and pubic area repair requests – ie: plunging toilets, unclogging drains, repairing all types of hardware, electrical equipment including lamps, air conditioners / HVAC and AC ducts, etc.;
  • Check for new maintenance work orders and get appropriate sign-off once the task is completed;
  • Interpret readings from meters and gauges and other measuring units;
  • Ensure security of guest room access and hotel property, managing guest room locks and safes;
  • Program TV's and perform general housekeeping and engineering-related inventory duties;
  • Test, troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on maintenance equipment;
  • Maintain all tools and equipment in the hotel;
  • Be available for any emergencies and act in an engineering capacity to protect guests and team members and preserve the building and its systems during the emergency;
  • Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards, anticipate and address guests;
  • Overseeing the hotel Pool and maintaining the pool in working order as outlined by the Region.
  • Monitor fire Alarm / Life Safety System systems as necessary, to be fully informed of the system operation and to handle emergencies involving the systems;
  • Read and understand blueprints, schematic drawings, and technical parts breakdown;
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional, maintain confidentiality of proprietary information, and protect company assets;
  • Maintains the hotel facility and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Complies with company safety policies, procedures, and guidelines;
  • Works accordance with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), including use pf protective equipment;
  • Act as a coach and mentor to all Shift Engineers within the department, ensuring their careers progress with ongoing on-the-job and institutional training, as and when required;
  • Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by the General Manager.

 Environmental Factors

  • Work varying shifts (morning, afternoon, evening, some overnights, weekends and holidays) as needed;
  • Heavy work - exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move, lift, carry, and place objects with and without assistance;
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping;
  • Stand, sit, kneel, or walk for an extended period across an entire work shift;
  • Visually verify and interpret written documents;
  • Move through narrow, confined, or elevated spaces;
  • Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces and steps;
  • Move up and down stairs and/or service ramps;
  • A fast paced and ever-evolving industry with high demands to perform;
  • Swift strategic thinking while under pressure to execute project strategies;
  • Continual use of manual dexterity and gross motor skills with frequent use of bi-manual dexterity and fine motor skills.

 Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years maintenance experience;
  • Class 5 or 4 Power Engineering certificate, preferred;
  • Experience with Facilities management or Building Maintenance is required;
  • Demonstrated experience in general finishing and decoration including painting, wall covering, flooring etc. is strongly preferred;
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced hotel environment would be considered an asset;
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written;
