Fairfield Inn & Suites Ottawa Kanata has a current full-time vacancy for a Laundry Attendant. The Laundry Attendant performs all laundry duties and is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of all linens. The position requires the ability to prioritize linen requirements to ensure an adequate supply is ready for guest rooms.
Your Role
Reporting to the Executive Housekeeper or designate, you will:
Assist other team members to ensure proper coverage and prompt guest service.
Ensure maximum cleaning effectiveness by sorting laundry prior to washing, based on fabric type, color, and item type.
Pull damaged and/or stained linens before loading washers.
Ensure proper loading capacity by weighing bed linens before washing.
Load washers and dryers according to recommended weight limits.
Save energy by setting dryers to appropriate heating and cooling times.
Place only suitable linens in the dryer for drying.
Operate, maintain, and clean laundry equipment according to established standards.
Inform the supervisor or management of any mechanical failures or supply shortages for timely corrective action.
Press and fold all linens neatly and correctly.
Assist in delivering linens to closets and designated storage areas.
Engage guests in conversation regarding their stay, property services, and local area attractions.
Speak to guests and team members using clear, appropriate, and professional language.
Communicate effectively with other team members to exchange information.
Assist with guest requests and maintain communication with Management using electronic devices (e.g., pagers, two-way radios).
Report any work-related accidents or injuries immediately to the manager or supervisor.
Follow hazardous material management program procedures for handling and disposing of chemicals, blood-borne pathogens, etc., including the use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Use proper equipment, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and follow correct lifting procedures to prevent injury.
Identify and correct unsafe work practices or conditions, or report them to management and safety personnel.
Remain aware of any suspicious or unauthorized individuals on the property.
Protect the privacy and security of guests and team members.
Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information and materials.
Ensure that uniform, name tag, and personal appearance are clean, hygienic, professional, and in line with company policies.
Follow laundry formulas accurately and report to management if adjustments are needed.
Assist with deep cleaning tasks, including washing drapes, blackouts, pillows, and other in-room linens.
Perform turndown service and clean stay-over or checkout rooms when requested.
Maintain a proper stock of clean pillows, duvets, inserts, and blankets, and wash them according to their fabric type.
Ensure all linens, drapes, uniforms, and towels are in good condition; perform minor repairs (e.g., sewing) when needed.
Assist with regular linen inventory.
Properly wash stained linens to reduce waste and maintain quality.
Keep a count of discarded linens and report the totals to the Housekeeping Manager daily or weekly.
Reuse damaged towels by converting them into cleaning cloths; maintain an inventory and report to management.
Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by the Executive Housekeeper or Housekeeping Manager.
What You Bring to the Table
Housekeeping experience is desirable but not required.
Basic knowledge of cleaning and industrial equipment and cleaning materials is desired but not required.
Ability to move, lift, carry, and place objects weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance and objects weighing more than 25 pounds with assistance.
Ability to push and pull a loaded housekeeping cart and other work-related equipment over sloping and uneven surfaces.
Ability to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
Ability to stand, sit, kneel, or walk for extended periods throughout an entire work shift.
Ability to grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Ability to work flexible shifts (mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays).
Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by supervisors.
